The Ministry of Environment (MME) has taken the opportunity of the 1st Meeting of the Municipalities with Sustainable Development to reward the best experiences in urban environmental sustainability. The initiative aims to promote the dissemination and exchange of municipal success experiences, valuing and encouraging the advances in the development of sustainable cities. The good selected practices will be published by the Ministry and released on events of great public presence, such as the Environment Week and the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20, to be held in June, in Rio de Janeiro. Five categories of experiences were chosen: Urban green areas and Management of permanent preservation; Water management in the urban context; Disaster prevention in urban areas; Urban solid waste and Institutional strengthening, planning and management.
