President Dilma Rousseff met with the President of the Coordination Committee for the Rio 2016 Games and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Nawal El Moutawakel, on March 8, and heard a positive report on preparations for the games in Brazil. The Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Cabral, was present at the meeting in the Presidential Palace, and said that Nawal El Moutawakel had acknowledged the progress in preparing for the 2016 Olympics. "It was a symbolic meeting between two women on International Women’s Day, with us men gathered around, them dealing with the 2016 Olympic Games, something that is a challenge not only for Rio de Janeiro, but for all Brazil and South America. After three days of work in Rio de Janeiro, the International Olympic Committee recognized the progress made by the Federal Government, State Government and the Municipal Government", said Cabral. The Sports Minister, Aldo Rebelo, said the encounter between the Olympic Committee representative and President Dilma was a working meeting. "We reaffirm our commitment and belief that Rio de Janeiro and Brazil will hold the greatest Olympics of all time". The Mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, also attended the meeting, as did the President of the Olympic Public Authority, Márcio Fortes, and the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman.
