A mission from the United Nations (UN) will undertake an official visit between March 5 and 10 to discuss details of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro in June. The mission of 20 delegates is led by the Rio+20 Secretary General, Sha Zukang. On the first day of the visit the UN representatives met with members of the Rio+20 National Organizing Committee (CNO), headed by Foreign Office Minister Laudemar Aguiar. According to a CNO spokesperson, logistical details for the event are being discussed, involving issues ranging from security, traffic, accommodation and preparation of the auditoriums, to issues such as facilities and services for the Brazilian and international press. The mission includes a visit to the Riocentro Convention Center, in the west of the Rio State capital, which has been chosen to host the official conference. Sha Zukang will also meet with the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes. On March 7 the mission travels to Brasilia, where it will meet with government representatives from the Brazilian Senate Foreign Relations Committee. During the meeting political and logistical preparations for the conference will be discussed, as well as paths to sustainable development. Meetings with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Patriota, and the Environment Minister, Izabella Teixeira, are scheduled for Friday, March 9.
